Dust Allergies Cause Many Reactions Today

Dust allergies are one of the most common forms of allergy that people have today. The biggest reason for this is the vast use of carpets in home construction today as well as the large amount of time that people spend indoors. A carpet can trap dust mites and give them a nice safe place to multiply their numbers. If you don't remove them often you can experience an allergic reaction to them.

A dust allergy can also be accompanied by asthma or an allergic reaction resulting in the airway passage becoming restricted. This makes it hard to breathe and very difficult to do any activities until the symptoms subside. Medication can be given as needed to reduce the asthma symptoms.

Why Is Dust Everywhere?

It's no surprise that so many people have allergic reactions to dust because it is literally everywhere. Dust is very small and can easily be carried around by the slightest of breezes around the home. Since many homes are dry and not cleaned frequently enough, these pesky little allergens are thriving today. When they are breathed into the body they can literally wreak havoc on the immune system and cause you to have those undesirable symptoms like sneezing, wheezing, coughing, and a runny nose.

Symptoms Of Dust Allergies

These allergy symptoms are pretty easy to identify and very similar to other allergic reactions. A difficulty breathing is one symptom. Some other common ones in addition to those mentioned above are skin rashes and possibly even a fever, though this is not as common as the others. A fever could actually indicate other complications and should be monitored closely. A doctor should be called if the fever prevails for an extended time or if it is much more than 100 degrees.

For treatment, your doctor may prescribe antihistamines or other medication to alleviate the symptoms. While this can help you feel better, at least temporarily, there are other things you will need to do. The main thing you will need to do is eliminate as much dust from your home and office as you can. You should make sure you are dusting at least once per week, as well as vacuuming with a high quality HEPA vacuum cleaner. Vacuums like Dyson and Miele that possess a HEPA filter are rated to remove close to 100% of the smallest of allergens including dust mites and pet dander. If you consistently use it you will reduce the amount of dust in your home which will in turn allow you to feel better while indoors.
