Allergy Free Cats | No Allergens Means No Allergic Reaction
Cat allergies are very common, affecting millions of people around the world. Just ask your allergist how many cases he encounters on a weekly basis and you will see just how big a problem it can be. Cats are also one of the most typical animals you will find in households today, but those with allergies will tell you that an allergic reaction will quickly follow even the mildest of exposure. Up until recently there really wasn't much an allergic person could do. They basically had to avoid cats altogether and certainly couldn't think of having one as a pet. That has recently changed and now there apparently are allergy free cats that you can purchase and bring into your home.
The biggest cat allergen is called glycoprotein. Glycoprotein is found in the largest quantities in your cat's saliva and skin, and can remain in the air of your home for many months as it patiently waits to cause your next allergic reaction. A company called Allerca, Inc. has solved this problem by coming out with their own line of allergy free cats that they sell to many allergic pet owners each year. According to the company they do not alter the cat's genes at all. They simply found the rare cat breeds that do not carry the glycoprotein allergen and bred them with each other.
How Are Their Cats Bred To Be Allergy Free?
For starters the team at Allerca focused in on the specific cat genes that produced glycoprotein, or the largest cause of cat allergies. They then looked for those cats that naturally diverged genetically from the production of it and became breeders of those animals. The result is kittens that are essentially free from the allergen, and supposedly safe for allergy sufferers as well. They later conducted tests to confirm what they thought: people with cat allergies did not have an allergic reaction to these animals.
Since so many people are allergic to cats and they are one of the top pets in homes today, the market for allergy free cats is huge. One thing to realize is a hypoallergenic cat is not an inexpensive pet by any means. They cost upwards of thousands of dollars and need to be shipped to you. If you are one of the many people afflicted with cat allergies and really want a cat to snuggle and play with check out Allerca's website.
